Optimization of model independent gravitational wave search for binary black hole mergers using machine learning

چکیده
The Coherent WaveBurst (cWB) search algorithm identifies generic gravitational wave (GW) signals in the LIGO-Virgo strain data. We propose a machine learning (ML) method to optimize pipeline sensitivity special class of GW known as binary black hole (BBH) mergers. Here, we test ML-enhanced cWB on data from first and second observing runs Advanced LIGO successfully recover all BBH events previously reported by cWB, with higher significance. For simulated found false alarm rate less than $1\,\mathrm{yr}^{-1}$, demonstrate improvement detection efficiency 26% for stellar-mass mergers 16% intermediate mass To robustness signals, show that it has increased spin precessing or eccentric events, even when trained quasi-circular aligned spins.

Nonlinear Gravitational-wave Memory from Binary Black Hole Mergers
Some astrophysical sources of gravitational-waves can produce a “memory effect,” which causes a permanent displacement of the test masses in a freely-falling gravitational-wave detector. The Christodoulou memory is a particularly interesting nonlinear form of memory that arises from the gravitational-wave stress-energy tensor’s contribution to the distant gravitational-wave field. This nonlinea...

I overview the current understanding of the evolution of massive black hole (MBH) binaries in the center of the host stellar system. One of the main questions is whether the stellar dynamical effect can make the MBH binary hard enough that they can merge through gravitational wave radiation. So far, theories and numerical simulations suggested otherwize, since the hardening timescale becomes ve...

www.physicstoday.org After decades of effort, numerical relativists can now simulate the inspiral and merger of two black holes orbiting each other. That computational triumph has come none too soon—physicists are on the verge of detecting gravitational waves for the first time, and at long last they know what to look for. Black holes are strong-field objects whose properties are governed by Ei...

We present results from a controlled numerical experiment investigating the effect of stellar density gas on the coalescence of binary black holes (BBHs) and the resulting gravitational waves (GWs). This investigation is motivated by the proposed stellar core fragmentation scenario for BBH formation and the associated possibility of an electromagnetic counterpart to a BBH GW event. We employ fu...
متن کاملHost galaxy identification for binary black hole mergers with long baseline gravitational wave detectors
The detection of three black hole binary coalescence events by Advanced LIGO allows the science benefits of future detectors to be evaluated. In this paper we report the science benefits of one or two 8km arm length detectors based on the doubling of key parameters in an advanced LIGO type detector, combined with realisable enhancements. It is shown that the total detection rate for sources sim...
